Peter van der Putten

machine learner and creative researcher - assistant professor

Peter van der Putten has a background in artificial intelligence and he is an assistant professor, creative researcher and data miner particularly interested how machines learn from interaction. Or more in general, how complex fundamental phenomena such as intelligence, creativity, emotion, morality can emerge from simple parts. And even broader, he likes to speculate on what possible futures could arise if we can model these phenomena in silico - the good, the bad and the ugly.

Peter has a MSc in Cognitive Artificial Intelligence from Utrecht University and a PhD in data mining from Leiden University, and combines academic research with applying these technologies in business.

He teaches New Media New Technology (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020), Artificial Creatures (2020-2021 onwards)  and has supervised many MSc thesis projects.

Peter holds office in room 131 of the Snellius building, typically on Fridays, but as a part time resercher best reached by email.
