Ars Electronica Festival
Since 1979 Ars Electronica has been the world's most outstanding forum of electronic art. State-of-the-art works of hundreds of artists from dozens of countries are presented in a festival that consists of exhibitions, demonstrations, performances, lectures, conferences, films, outside events, meetings and parties of all kinds.
The theme of Ars Electronica 2017 is "ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: The Other I". What are we to make of artificial intelligence? Gigantic job eliminator? Or the next step in evolution, the one in which technology finally asserts its mastery over us? Or maybe the source of redemptive systems that develop new medications for us and operate on us? Artificial intelligence has many faces and they’re sure to pay attention to us all.
As the subtitle of this year's theme suggests ("The Other I"), we will be focusing our attention beyond the technological and economic horizon to scrutinize cultural, psychological, philosophical and spiritual aspects. From the perspective of a festival dedicated to art, technology and society, Ars Electronica is interested above all in the visions, expectations and fears that we associate with the conception of a future, all-encompassing artificial intelligence.
