Some updates re: the expo:

I am still missing a listing of some of the groups (or solo teams) on https://sites.google.com/site/newmedianewtechnology2019/nmnt-class/open-lab-expo, the deadline for this was last Friday. Please update asap, I simply want to have a view of what the groups are and whether everyone has been accounted for; this may also help people that are still looking for a team.

I am also missing some registrations for the course on USIS. Register ASAP if you havent done so.

I have have added a map of the location. If you want to use a certain part of the space, edit the map. In case of multiple groups wanting to use the same space, please resolve amongst each other. Let’s make sure we have a good spread across the full location. Site specific works or some large works are welcome!

Furthermore, it would be nice if some groups could already start with putting a teaser on the homepage, see https://sites.google.com/site/newmedianewtechnology2019/nmnt-class/open-lab-expo

If you are on Facebook, please share the Facebook event and invite your contacts to the event. Also it is open for anyone to post content in there - could be teaser content or lab 1/2 work.

I am open to hosting Lab 1 and Lab 2 work as well as we have plenty of space - contact me if you want to show your project(s).

If you want to discuss any ideas or need some tech support just drop me a mail.

Finally please be aware there will be no wireless network or internet at the location, so you will have set this up yourself.

Cheers,

Peter

If you want to get some more inspiration, swing by this weekend at the art science masters first year presentation in Quartair, The Hague.

From

https://www.quartair.nl/

KILLING HORIZONS

“We arrived, we had Ideas, we had to destroy them.
Throughout the year, each one of us eventually matched the null hypersurface defined by the vanishing of the norm of a killing vector field - his or her personal Killing Horizon. From
this zero point, we departed happily and determined to build new horizons to kill.”

The ArtScience Masters first year showcase their works and processes of a year-long incubation. ArtScience is all about killing what one might imagine on the horizon; it demands change in perspective and the axis of the exhibition is disorientingly interdisciplinary. From mechanical sculptures, sound and light installations, to augmented reality and performances, the experimentation is the crucial part of our process and we are interested in the unexpected outcomes.

Works by: Felix Bodin, Gabriela Acha, Timoteo Carbone, Alexander Heil, Ian Ouros, Berk Özdemir, Mint Park, Lianne van Roekel, Daan Westerheide, Iva Berkovic, Sébastien Robert.

Opening on June 7th, 2019 from 7 pm to 11:30 pm
Exhibition runs through the weekend

Sat-Sun 1300-1800

Note also that the deadline for putting project teasers on the homepage / frontpage is this friday, see https://sites.google.com/site/newmedianewtechnology2019/nmnt-class/open-lab-expo and previous years for examples.

Updates:

Logistics

* Equipment (projectors etc) has been added on https://mediatechnology.leiden.edu/services/equipment. Be sure to pick up equipment on time so that there are no last minute surprises
* Next week Tuesday we will create physical project cards based on the teaser texts, so if there is anything you want to change, do it before then
* I will come back on opening hours and what days we can work next week on location, at minimum it will be Wed-Fri 1500-2300 (ping pong opening hrs) but i expect i can arrange more; what would you ideally want (earliest day that people actually would want to work?)
* I can reserve a van that we can use but students would have to pick it up (and fill the gas) are there days that people want to make use of it and i will check

Content and Promotion

* All works have been posted on the home page, see https://sites.google.com/site/newmedianewtechnology2019/
* if you want to include any of the lab 1/2 works, just Ping me and add to the bonus section of the web page

* More stuff to be posted in the Facebook Event (invite people to event if you are a FB user, and you can also post directly into the event it is open to anyone) https://www.facebook.com/events/1036760616530488/ as well as the Mediatech and Peron E instagrams, see https://www.instagram.com/mscmediatechnology/ and https://www.instagram.com/peron_e_utrecht/
* Suggestions for further promotions welcome (other social channels, people to invite etc)
* We are aiming to organize alumni talks as well 1-2 on Saturday
* Any volunteers open to talking to press?

* We can build up on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 11am-11pm. If there is a need to start earlier i can ask the location and they can send someone - I am considering doing that for Friday at least. Question: is there a need to start earlier indeed and what days (Friday? Thu even?)
* We can rent a van from the university, its currently still available every day but it does need to be returned every day (rental fee for media tech, fuel for students). What dates should we reserve the van? Wednesday? Monday after the event? More (please collaborate a bit)? I suggest that one student claims the van for a particular day, and then let the other students know on whatsapp as well as on this thread for sharing (possibly multiple trips a day). Contact Barbara for details
* As a final push on social, if you are on FB, go to the event at https://www.facebook.com/events/1036760616530488/ and under the share button, ‘Invite’ friends (or share to your timeline). All instafans just follow @mscmediatechnology
. And if you want to stay away from tech giants just invite folks by email with a link to https://sites.google.com/site/newmedianewtechnology2019/
* I roughly calculated max 500 watts consumption per installation, if you have higher energy requirements (or any special requirements) let me know
* I confused some with a statement on registering for the course on Blackboard but I should have said register in USIS - code 4383NMNT5T
* There were some groups that changed their concept. This is fine of course just make sure you update the teaser text and have sufficient time to implement your project. Tue after lunch I will create project cards so make sure the teaser texts are up to date then.
* I will be at LIACS drinks Thu evening June 20 and at LIACS Fri June 21 (potentially at the location Fri afternoon)
