Dear semester-project participants,

This year’s overall theme will be “AUTO

We have made a list of initial sub-themes:

- Autocreation
- Arbitrary
- Authentic
- Autogenous
- Automatic
- Autoregulation
- Autospection
- Autonomous
- Autogenesis
- Autologous
- Autopia
- Auto

What’s next:

1) You can send us suggestions for additional themes until June 24th by email to mediatechnology [AT] leiden edu. We will evaluate the suggestions and publish a final list of sub-themes on June 26th.

2) Afterwards each of you must send an e-mail message to mediatechnology [AT] leiden edu, at latest on June 28th 2017, that contains the following information:
- e-mail subject: “Semester project theme preferences”
- your name,
- the three themes that you prefer to work on, ordered from strongest preference (1) to third-most preference (3),
- optionally the name of one student that you do not prefer not to be teamed-up with.

Here is a simple example to help you:

Tomediatechnology#leiden#edu
SubjectSemester Project theme preferences

My name is
: .....
My preferred themes are:
    (
1) .....,
    (
2) .....,
    (
3) ......
I would rather not be teamed-up with: ......

3) We will treat all e-mails confidentially.

4) We will make teams of 3 (or 2) students and assign them a theme. Naturally we will attempt where possible to respect your preferences, but you should understand that full compliance is combinatorically not possible. If we did not receive the above e-mail from you before the deadline, we will decide for you.

5) In this forum-thread we will announce the teams and themes. This may take some time (like 10 days), since it is difficult to match preferences.

6) Coaches will be assigned to the groups in September.

Meanwhile, don’t forget to read the Semester Project Manual!

Enjoy the summer and take the time to start exploring your theme!

Below follow the groups of the Semester Project.

The first Plennary Session for the Semester Project is September 18th at 10h. (please note that afterwards we will continue with the evaluation of the second semester)

Each of the groups is expected to give a compact presentation on their theme explorations. The plennary sessions are primarily meant to update, and get feedback from, each other. Furthermore it’s a moment to ask questions.

Now is the moment to refresh yourself and read the Semester Project Manual once again, dedicate your time to the Semester Project and start meeting each other.

You will hear about the assignment of the Semester Project coaches in the coming days.

We are very much looking forward to see you at the first Plenary Session!

It is the responsibility of each group to initiate and maintain contact with their coach throughout the project.

The first plenary session is planned tomorrow (18/9), see you there!

Here follow the dates of the two remaining plenary sessions:
- the second plenary session is Tuesday October 16th 10h00 - 12h30 (and afterwards we will continue the evaluation of the second semester).
- the third plenary session is Friday November 2nd at 10h00 - 12h30.

As a reminder:
- for the second session we expect you to have finalized your exploration phase, give an overview of it and introduce your initial statements.
- for the third session we expect you to present your final statement and introduce how you are thinking to translate this in to an experience that is part of the exhibition.

Don’t forget to not only present the current status of your work but also use the plenary sessions to get feedback and input on your ideas.

Very much looking forward!

Dear all,

November 19th at 11h sharp we will bring a collective visit to Old School, the location for the Semester Project Exhibition.

Zois, the teaching assistant for the Semester Project, will also join.

The goal of the meeting is to get a good impression of the spaces so that you can reflect upon how to them.

Dear all,

Here follows an important change of dates:

We have decided to change the presentation date from December 13th 10h00-13h00 to December 12th 10h00-13h00. This is due to multiple coaches that were not able to attend the presentations on Thursday.

The opening of the exhibition remains December 13th 17h00.

Best regards!

Edwin

Dear all,

We know how difficult of a request this is but in order to have enough time to make publicity for our event we will need to have some information about your works.

We would like to have the following:
- title of your work
- a short text about your work that makes people curious to experience it (+/- 70 words)
- a small image to accompany the text. small means an image with a decent resolution (or vector image) that still communicates its content when printed at the size of a post stamp. (just to sure: please avoid any copyright issues)

The deadline is November 22nd.

Please send your material to both Vera vd S and me.

The very best!

Edwin
