A message on behalf of Els van Rooij from Institute for Science Education and Communication University of Groningen:

We kindly ask you to complete the Career Aspirations and Perceptions Survey ( This survey is about your perceptions of different career possibilities in science, how attractive these different options seem to you, and what you are looking for in your future job.

The data collected in this survey will be used to gain scientific insight into science students’ career aspirations and perceptions and to provide universities with information to improve career preparation practices in their science programmes, if necessary. For you personally, completing the survey may help you to get a clearer idea about your career wishes and ambitions.

The survey is anonymous, contains almost exclusively multiple-choice items and rating scales, and will take about 15 to 20 minutes for you to complete. Your answers are treated carefully and respectfully and will not be distributed to third parties. You do not have to complete the survey all at once; you can close it and open the link again later on the same device, to continue where you left off. For optimal display we advise you to complete the survey on your desktop or laptop.

As a gesture of appreciation, survey respondents will be entered in a draw for vouchers. The winners will be informed by e-mail in May 2018. If you would like to take part in this draw, please include your e-mail address at the end of the survey. Please note that this e-mail address will be collected separately from the content of the survey (to guarantee anonymity) and will only be used to notify you if you win a prize.

Your perceptions are extremely valuable to us, so we really hope that you will participate in this survey.
