Labs and Work Areas

Several work areas or labs are available to students in the Snellius building.

Opening hours

The Snellius building is opened between 08h00 and 19h30. Outside these hours the building can only be entered and exited with a building key.

Room 406

This room is available as Media Technology student lab. Students can use it to work on their projects. It is mostly used for the construction of installations. Some basic materials are available in the student lab, but you may want to bring your own. If you want to work there, try not to bother others and clean up after you’re done. Building management requires this room to be locked. If you want to use it, pick up a key from the Media Technology office.

Room 408

This is the Media Technology computer lab. It houses several Apple eMac computers for students to use. This room can also be used by students as a general working and/or meeting area.

Room 303

Workspaces for students with plenty of power-outlets for laptops, network cable connections, and good wireless.

Room 410

This is a LIACS computer lab that Media Technology students can use. It houses Windows/Linux PCs.

Room 413

This is the Media Technology lecture room. It contains a video projector (max resolution 1024×768) and connected audio speakers. Students can use this room outside class hours, but not for physical construction work. Always clean up the room for the next class. Building management requires this room to be locked. If you want to use it, pick up a key from the Media Technology office.

Library

Floor 2 of the Snellius building houses the Mathematics and Computer Science library. Although its content is not particularly useful for Media Technology students, it is a good place for undisturbed study.

FooBar

The LIACS FooBar is an actual bar that is housed inside the Snellius building (in front of room 313). It is run by volunteers from the Faculty of Sciences and drink prices are very low. It is opened every Thursday from 17h00, but often on other days also. It is a good place to organize your own social drinks (borrels). Read more on http://foobar.liacs.nl/.
