When AR Meets Odyssey
The development of new media technologies offers many opportunities for designing interactive learning experiences that could help children to better understand a subject. In this paper I describe the design of an interactive learning game for children age 7-13. With this interactive game I wanted to explore a new way of teaching mythology using new media technologies and more specifically Augmented Reality. The game is designed as a cooperative learning game for four children, with the task of helping them to grow familiar with the story of the myth (adventure of Odysseus in Circes Island), the civilization involved (Mycenaean civilization) and also to experience the symbolism of the myth. In order to evaluate the ability of the interactive learning game to give new knowledge in an innovative way, to amuse and intrigue the interest regarding the cultural elements, I invited 20 persons to participate and answer a set of questions. Even though this interactive learning game is in an early stage at the moment and needs many further corrections, it could be the beginning for future investigations of new learning techniques.
