“Total Recall”: study trip to the Ars Electronica Festival 2013 in Austria
This year also, as part of their curriculum, all new Media Technology students go on a study trip to the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, Austria. Staff of the Media Technology and ArtScience programmes will join them.
Since 1979 Ars Electronica has been the world's most outstanding forum of electronic art. State-of-the-art works of hundreds of artists from dozens of countries are presented in a festival that consists of exhibitions, demonstrations, performances, lectures, conferences, films, outside events, meetings and parties of all kinds.
The theme of Ars Electronica Festival 2013 is "Total Recall – The Evolution of Memory". What is remembrance? How is information saved to memory and how is it lost—in nature, in technology, in the future? Neuroscientists and computer engineers, artists and philosophers will talk about their approaches, about the latest finding and their interpretations of them, and about their plans and visions of a future in which we’ll be able to save everything to memory.
