Symposium Rise of the Machemes – how technology creates itself
Is technology able to evolve in a way similar to biological
evolution? This is the main question during the mini-symposium Rise of
the Machemes. We will do a little technological experiment to see if
we can prove technological evolution.

Chairman: Bas Haring

Abstract Ella Keijzer
Machemes consist of technological information and are supposed to be
the new replicators that follow the rules of Darwinian evolution. In
this research I show that by creating a simple piece of software set
loose it in the quantity of information and technology, evolution will
arise spontaneously. During my presentation we will do a
Twitter-experiment and try to let it evolve.

Peers of review
Leonieke Verhoog – Projectleader/Research&Innovation; at VPRO
Wouter Beek – PhD student at the Human Computer Studies department of
the University of Amsterdam
