On June 17, 21 and 30, Huifen Liu will teach a three-day interactive workshop about design patterns for interactive media, focusing on interactive films, entitled:

Design Patterns for Interactive Films

Content
Through case studies, understanding different patterns of the interactive narrative for digital media, that is, how storytelling can be combined with interactivity, and discussing the new patterns or creative narrative for applications of web, interactive TV (iTV), and 3G mobile platforms.

The workshop goes through possible narrative patterns, focused on interactive animation and movies. The first two days consist of lectures, demonstrations, discussions and group work. Outline of the lectures and cases studies:
1. New content for digital networks
2. Interactive and Narrative
3. Interactive Narrative
3.1 Enhanced narrative
3.2 Multipath narrative
3.3 Parallel narrative
4. Collaborative narrative
4.1 Users created content
4.2 Users created pattern/structure
4.3 Future developments

After the first two days, students work at home (approximately 16 hours work) to make their own interactive work, the research project deliverables:
1. A proof of concept prototype
2. New cases study and design analysis
3. New creative patterns with story outline or plot
4. An interactive work that users can interact with the story, by any formats or forms available.
5. Any other creative project negotiable.

On the third day, students present and discuss their results.
