Masterclass “Creative Research”, April 18
On Saturday, April 18 2009, the Media Technology MSc programme of Leiden University organizes a full-day masterclass about “Creative Research“, a concept that is central in the Media Technology programme. The day is open to anyone interested.
Statements of the day
There must be more room for creativity and unconventional ideas in scientific research. Only through dealing creatively with research itself can we achieve results that could otherwise not be envisioned, and can science remain groundbreaking. Just as in the Dutch concept of autonomous artists, there should be independent and creative scientists — autonomous scientists.

About the lecturers
Wubbo Ockels is professor Aerospace for Sustainable Engineering and Technology at the Delft University of Technology. He has overseen the Nuna projects. He has also proposed the development of a Superbus, a new method of high speed (250 km/hour) public transportation by road. Currently Wubbo Ockels is involved in his “LadderMill” sustainable energy program.
Maarten Lamers is assistant professor within the LIACS computer science institute of Leiden University. He teaches the course ‘Creative research’ at the Media Technology MSc program. He wishes to deliver modern scientists that are capable of finding new, interesting and unexpected areas of research.
Bas Haring is extraordinary professor at Leiden University and teaches several courses like ‘Creative Research’ at the Media Technology MSc program. The Media Technology program was initiated by him. He is also a philosopher and writes books. His last book is called ‘Voor een echt succesvol leven’.
