Dear students, this is the thread for the upcoming Semester Project.

Here follows some initial information. Please read it carefully!

Themes:

This year’s overall theme is “TRANSITION”. We will still publish our proposed sub-themes derived from “TRANSITION” but at the same time you’re also invited to propose additional sub-themes related to the overall theme.

You can propose your additional sub-themes to (mediatechnology, leiden, edu) until Friday June 22nd, 10h00. The final list of themes will be posted in this thread on Friday afternoon.

After the final list has been posted you’ll have to mail your preferred 3 final themes at the latest on Monday June 25th, 18h00 to Lianne Heun (aheun, liacs, nl). Indicate which is your first, which your second, and which is your third choice. If you want, you can indicate at most 2 names of students that you would rather not be teamed up with. Naturally, this will remain undisclosed.

Teams:

Where possible we will attempt to respect your preferences when forming the teams. The teams, themes and supervisors will be announced through this forum shortly after June 26th.

All the best,

Bas, Edwin, Maarten & Lianne

For students participating in the Semester Project, we have created a “manual” that offers an overview of what to expect within the project. We urge you to read it. It can be found on the Media Technology website at http://mediatechnology.leiden.edu/programme/semester-project-overview/.

Good luck with the project,
Maarten

A slightly updated “Semester Project manual” was uploaded to the Media Technology website (dated 18/9/2012). It contains some additional information regarding the plenary meetings. It replaces the previous version (dated 14/9/2012), and can also be found via http://mediatechnology.leiden.edu/programme/semester-project-overview/

Hey guys,

We thought it would be a cool idea to share our blog on here, so take a look if you want:

http://buttonstobrainwaves.wordpress.com/

It’s far from finished, but that’s why it’s a blog =]
It would be cool if some of you share your semesterproject-blogs on here too.

best,
Marjolein, Navid en Mirela

Dear students,

By request of 2 semester-project groups we have decided to relax the deadline for the paper to Monday Feb 4, 18:00h. Send your papers in PDF format to lamers@liacs.nl before this deadline.

No further extension of the deadline will be made, since all the project coaches need time to review all the papers before the grading date.

Best,
Maarten

Dear students,

the evaluation meetingof the semester projects will be on Thursday Feb 7, starting 10:00h at Raamsteeg 2.

The evaluation process is explained in the semester-project manual (see http://mediatechnology.leiden.edu/programme/semester-project-overview/). In short: the evaluation commitee (coaches) will jointly visit each project, where the project-group can verbally explain their work in roughly 10 minutes. The coaches should be able to experience the work and ask questions about the work/process. After visiting all works, the evaluation committee retreats to discuss the works and determine the final grade. Each final grade is accompanied by a short written motivation.

As explained earlier in this forum thread, the evaluation criteria and supplementary rules are mentioned in the semester-project manual.

Make sure that you are present at your functioning work at 10:00h for the walk-through. Sometime between 12:00 and 13:00h, the evaulation committee will retreat to discuss all the projects. At 16:00h, the opening lecture is held by Amalia Kallergi, followed by the official exhibition opening at 17:00h.

See you Thursday at 10:00h. Best regards and good luck finishing the works! We all look forward to the exhibition very much.
