Dear students,

Homework assignment #4 is now complete: all three articles are mentioned there and placed inside the reader. Download the reader from Blackboard to view them.

Submit the assignment via the Blackboard page of this course (under “Content” -> “Submit work here”). The work must be submitted before next class (Oct 2).

All the best,
Maarten

Kind regards,

The following students have not successfully submitted assignment 4 (write abstract). Perhaps something went wrong in submission. Always make sure you get a receipt from Balckboard about submission.

- Pieke
- Esmee
- Vera vdS
- Sophie

Please send me your assignment by email (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)), I will send you a recepit mail. If you did not received that after two days, something went wrong again.

Best,
Maarten

Dear students,

I have moved the submission deadline for the 7-Papers assignment to Thursday Oct 19, 23:59h, so that you have more time for it. Please spread the word to other students (whatsapp? facebook?).

Please make sure that submission goes well! Make sure you get a submission receipt. Students informed me that you need to “press OK twice”, whatever that means…

Best!
Maarten

Dear students,

Although assignment 4 (“write abstract”) is technically a PASS/FAIL assignment, we did assign more possible outcomes to your works. Here is a translation of the lettered-outcomes that you may find on Blackboard.

VG = Very Good
G = Good
PG = “between Pass and Good”
P = Pass
F = Failed

For successfully completing the Creative Research course, all PASS/FAIL assignments must be passed (as stated on the course webpage), so evaluated as “P” or higher.

All the best,
Maarten

Dear students,

the “crackpot science” item in homework assignment 6 (for upcoming Monday) refers to this webpage:
http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-22171039

I thought I’d tell you this because the internal links on our website no longer function.

Happy readings!

INSPIRATION HOMEWORK 7

Sophie and I found a site with the most bizarre research paper topics! Btw: dibs! We already wrote about the Penile Zipper Entrapment.

Cool! I recognize several of these as Ignobel Prize winners (https://www.improbable.com/ig/winners/). Also, some I recognize from the same assignment in previous years.

That leads me to the following challenge: try to find an example that is not on the list of “30 OF THE MOST BIZARRE RESEARCH PAPER TOPICS” and did not win an IgNobel prize!

good luck, and have a nice week.

Dear students,

On Dec 11, we have invited a guest lecturer into the Creative Research class, namely Rebecca Schaefer of the Psychology unit of Leiden University. As a consequence, class on that day starts and ends 30 minutes later (14:00-16:00).

The exact topic of her presentation will be communicated later.

Paraphrasing from her website: Rebecca’s primary research interests are the neuroscience of moving to music, music performance and music imagination, aiming to apply these findings to rehabilitation settings. Her PhD work focused on developing cognitive tasks for Brain-Computer Interfaces, and specifically on decoding music imagery from electrical brain signals. She carried out research focused on the interaction of music and movement, individual differences in rhythmic ability and imagery function.

Dear students,

after considerate discussion we have decided that the Social Skills workshop of tomorrow Nov 14 WILL GO THROUGH! We expect you to attend (with the 3 exceptions in mind of those who had already contacted me).

Sorry to misuse this topic. Best, and see you tomorrow,
Maarten

PS. please do not react to me personally, I am just the messenger.
