Dear semester-project participants,

This year’s overall theme will be “LANGUAGE

We have made a list of initial sub-themes:

- code
- context
- evolution
- abstract
- processing
- morphology
- gesture
- sonic
- synthetic
- universal
- translation

What’s next:

1) You can send us suggestions for additional themes until June 25th by email to mediatechnology [AT] leiden edu. We will evaluate the suggestions and publish a final list of sub-themes on Monday June 26th.

2) Afterwards each of you must send an e-mail message to mediatechnology [AT] leiden edu, at latest on Wednesday June 28th 2017, that contains the following information:
- e-mail subject: “Semester project theme preferences”
- your name,
- the three themes that you prefer to work on, ordered from strongest preference (1) to third-most preference (3),
- optionally the name of one student that you do not prefer not to be teamed-up with.

Here is a simple example to help you:

Tomediatechnology#leiden#edu
SubjectSemester Project theme preferences

My name is
: .....
My preferred themes are:
    (
1) .....,
    (
2) .....,
    (
3) ......
I would rather not be teamed-up with: ......

3) We will treat all e-mails confidentially.

4) We will make teams of 3 (or 2) students and assign them a theme. Naturally we will attempt where possible to respect your preferences, but you should understand that full compliance is combinatorically not possible. If we did not receive the above e-mail from you before the deadline, we will decide for you.

5) In this forum-thread we will announce the teams and themes. This may take some time (like 10 days), since it is difficult to match preferences.

6) Coaches will be assigned to the groups in September.

Meanwhile, don’t forget to read the Semester Project Manual!

Enjoy the summer and take the time to start exploring your theme!

Hi Suzan,

yep, we are currently finding the coaches (we have never had só many groups before, so additional coaches are required). Next week the coaches will be announced. Also, we will plan the plenary meetings next week.

Regarding the manual: most of it is still current, we hope to update it soon.

Dear students,

We have a really nice combination of ten coaches for the Semester Project groups. Below is a list of the themed groups and their coaches. It is important that you contact your coach yourselves (they will not contact you). Realize that some coaches have busy schedules (like Holger, Marcello and Jetty, to name a few…) or may be attending conferences, so plan meetings ahead of time. A typical meeting cycle would be to meet for 45 minutes every 2 or 3 weeks, but feel free to propose differently to your coach.

Make sure to plan a first meeting with your assigned coach now and continue exploring your theme in the broadest and deepest directions. We will inform you later this week about the plenary session dates and some other details.

Kind regards, looking forward to a really interesting and successful Semester Project!

Maarten, Edwin, Max and Nanda

Please have a look!

Dear all,

The graphic design of the Semester Project flyer and poster is always done by one, two or sometimes even three students that participate in the Semester Project.

Who want(s) to do the graphic design this for year?

Please contact me by email if you are interested.

Best regards!

Edwin

p.s. please share this message between each other

Hi all,

This year I will be assisting to make an great Semester project exhibition at V2.
Some of you already hunted me down on social media and contacted me, which is fine.
However, I am not always reachable via these channels and I do prefer if you have questions to contact me via email (r.bergman[at]umail.leidenuniv.nl) or for urgent matters by phone which will be shared tomorrow.

Furthermore, I am looking forward to all your projects and wish you the best of luck during the development.

Hope to see you tomorrow at V2!

Best,
Robin
