Dear students, the LIACS logo needs to be changed. Apparently, it must be the Leiden University seal with some text under it. Marloes, the department secretary, is looking for a student who can help her to realise this. I gues it is only 5 minutes work, and would be very very much appreciated.

entrance passes Snellius building

Dear students,

In the past there were 5 entrance passes of the Snellius building available. I think that four students at the moment are continuous owners of these passes instead of borrowers.
Could anyone who is in the possession of such an entrance pass and doesn’t need it frequently anymore, come to my office and hand it in?
Or in case you still need to use the pass often, then let me know (by e-mail) that you have the pass.

last week I visited the EvoStar conference in Malaga. It is about evolutionary algorithms and covers several subconferences, among which the “Evolutionary Music and Arts” (EvoMusArt) and “Evolutionary Games” (EvoGames) conferences. Meta Media and HCI collision

I don’t know who I should contact about this, so I posted it here.

The online calendar shows that Meta Media and HCI coincide on the 14th and 17th of november (same time, same place).
The HCI classes are presentations which are obligatory for some people. I am wondering if it is possible to follow the Meta Media class if it is not possible to attend part of it on the 14th, 17th or both. (the second year it may coincide with electives… I’m not sure what to do with this)

MT in tonio book

Hi everybody,

I just wanted to mention to you that the mediatechnology program was briefly mentioned in the new book Tonio, written by the well known writer AFth vd Heijden.
The book is about his son we died in a car accident about a year and a half ago. This son was determined to study MT. But infortunately never could do so.

I thougt it was interesting to discover this little piece of info during some light bed time reading.

Award for best new media production won by Lieven

It is just made public that the Cinekid award for the best new media production has been won by Lieven van Velthoven, MT-student, for his Room Racers game.
Besides the award he receives 7500 euro.

Patatje Oorlog beste jeugdfilm op Cinekid

Patatje Oorlog van Nicole van Kilsdonk heeft donderdag de prijs gewonnen voor beste Nederlandse kinderfilm op het jeugdmediafestival Cinekid in Amsterdam. De publieksprijs ging naar Penny’s Shadow van Steven de Jong, zo liet de organisatie van Cinekid weten.

De jury vond Entre Lobos (Among Wolves) de beste internationale kinderfilm. De prijs voor beste Nederlandse jeugdprogramma op tv (de Gouden Kinderkast) ging in het Amsterdamse Machinegebouw naar Ik heb een droom van Jan-Willem Wit & Joost Gulien.

De onderscheiding voor beste nieuwe mediaproductie was voor Room Racers van Lieven van Velthoven. Beide winnaars ontvingen een geldbedrag van 7500 euro, net als de winnaar van de beste jeugdfilm.

I received the below request for help from Jonathan, a former Media Technology student (you may know him from the PingPongPixel project). It is in Dutch, sorry. Perhaps someone of you would like to help him.

Beste Maarten,

Ik ben laatst een open call website gestart (http://www.callfor.org) op het gebied van de kunsten en de toegepaste kunsten. Eigenlijk ontstaan uit mijn eigen irritatie naar het zoeken op de diverse bestaande websites met interessante open calls. Elke dag gooien we er een aantal open calls bij ook op het gebied van Mediakunst/technologie.

Nu is programmeren nooit mijn sterkste kant geweest en dus vroeg ik me af of er in de huidige lichting van studenten wellicht iemand is die enige php kennis gratis ter beschikking wil stellen, voor simpele dingen als het uitlijnen van de widgets, in dezelfde css op maken, etc.

Het moet een vast een eitje zijn voor een pro, maar ik heb er eigenlijk simpelweg geen tijd voor, besteed dat liever aan het updaten van de open calls. Als je iemand weet die dat leuk vindt om te doen, geen geld, alleen eer, een liefdadigheids projectje dan hoor ik het graag,
